Translucent leaves

We took this photo because we can help noticing how translucent the leaves on this tree looks with the sun shining through.

We are not sure if it was the leaves themselves that are translucent in nature, or because of the sun. You be the judge.

Evergreens

Even when we are having a drought, we can still get such greeneries! Why? We export water from elsewhere!

During the beginning of the last century (the 20th century, that is), the forefathers of our City of Angels built an aqueduct to transport water some 200 miles from Central California to LA.

This is the front entrance of Fry's Electronics in Burbank, CA. Fry's Electronics is like a Walmart-version of an electronic store. You can find all sorts of electronics and electronics-related stuffs here. Each Fry's store has a different theme. But the one in Burbank is the most eye-catching.

Sugar Cane

Sugar cane plants, even though a tropical plant, will thrive in South California because of the mild weather. All we had to do is add lots and lots of water. For more info on sugar cane, check out wikipedia.com.

The contradiction to the story is LA has gotten less than 3" of rain since July, 2006 (hence the Hollywood fire a couple of Fridays ago).

Leaning Tree

Hollywood Fire

Last Friday, two Illinois teenagers accidentally set fire to the Hollywood hills that destroyed 150 acres of brushes and threatened the famed Hollywood sign and a corporate housing complex (see news report).
More Reuter Photos here

This photo of the hill where the fire started was taken this afternoon. The apartment complex where the teens stayed (and started the fire) is about 100 feet to the right of the photo. We were standing across the street from the hill where Warner Bros. studio is located. Behind this hill is the Hollywood sign. Two blocks to the right of the photo is Universal Studios.

And, no, we did not specifically go there to take this photo. We were at our client's office next door this afternoon and couldn't resist taking this photo for LA's DP!
