Cactus, a popular backyard/frontyard ornamental plant, can be colorful when "flowering" these pear-like flowers. These cactus pears are edible.

interesting... what does it taste like? and do you cook it first or just eat it raw?

I've seen used in pear cactus dacquiris and pear cactus salads. Don't know how they taste though.

Also interested to know what they taste like. I'm guessing pretty bland?

We have tried it in a dish here where they sliced up the "leaves" of the cactus and stir-fried. The "leave" slices are bland and mushy like okras.
